WAG POETRY
LIVING REINVENTION: A Writing Workshop
Sunday, April 6, 1 - 4pm
As I write, I create myself again and again.

Writing is a powerful way to explore and connect across our uniqueness to our commonalities, making us feel less alone and validating our shared humanity. It may touch another’s life in unexpected and magic ways.
Through prompted writing in a safe and structured environment with skilled facilitation, we will explore the impact of place, time, and context on our choices of becoming. We will discuss difference in an atmosphere of open mutual respect, share writing, and create a personal collage to reflect our present reality. No prior writing or art experience required. All are welcome. Limited to twelve participants.
Offered by local poet and experienced facilitator Sarah W. Bartlett. Writing and art materials will be provided.

ABOUT WAG POETS
The WAG poetry group meets twice a month. We offer a judgement-free space to read/have your work heard by poets of widely differing styles and aesthetics; and to ask for specific feedback to further your work. All comments are offered to lift up the strengths of a piece; the writing ultimately belongs to the writer.
Even when we don’t have new work to bring, we use our time to seek ideas for moving ahead, or finding the right vehicle or voice for an inchoate idea. Often we discuss specific aspects of writing poetry; or write together, sharing our words in the moment. We explore our vulnerability alongside our vision, celebrating each individual voice with equal attention. While some of us have published or seek to publish our work, that is neither a focus nor a requirement for participation.
IN HONOR OF THE NEW YEAR:
WRITING IDEAS:
Choose a line or phrase from the poem to start your own writing: e.g., ‘so much of the year is flammable;’ ‘an absence shouts, celebrates, leaves a space;’ or another that speaks to you.
How do you feel about the idea that ‘so little is a stone’ in the context of the past year?
Using the final stanza, create a ‘golden shovel’ poem in which each word becomes the final word of successive lines. IE first line ends with ‘quick;’ second, with ‘dance;’ third with ‘shuffle;’ and so on.
Use “Burning the Old Year” as a model for your own poem, inserting specifics from your life.
Turn the whole idea around: rather than burning the old year, what would you like to plant, nourish, cherish in the coming year?
WAG Poets Meetings
WAG Poets meet in person in the gallery the second Monday and final Thursday of the month starting at 1:30 pm. There is a $5 fee per person for each session to help defray WAG expenses. We are currently closed to new members.
