Created for the love of art and community.
Westport Art Group was formed in 1955 by a small group of local, art-minded women. Since then, we have grown into a robust and colorful community organization approaching 250 members from all over South Coast, Massachusetts, southern Rhode Island, and beyond. At our active Main Road, Westport Point building, we offer both adult and youth art classes and show events throughout the year, many of which are open to the public. We are a 501(c)3 organization.

Beginner Oil Painting
with Instructor Patricia Schneider
Six weeks: Mondays, January 6,13,20,27, February 3,10 2025
This class is designed for all levels with a strong focus on how to match colors in light, mid and dark values. Painting is all about how one color relates to its neighbor, and how to prevent a muddy mess when using oils.
If you’re new to painting, you’ll receive lots of feedback and demos. If you’re an artist struggling to complete a painting or can’t figure out how to achieve more of a likeness, this class is for you! We will cover: transferring the image onto a toned canvas, creating piles of paint using our 9 oil paint colors, mixing a grayscale, how to match a color, creating thin layers in the beginning and adding more opacity towards the end, how to “paint” not draw with our brushes, fat over lean technique and much more. Open to all. Register on the Adult Art page!
In-Person Adult Classes & Workshops
All Westport Art Group classes are open to both members and nonmembers, but for adult classes, current members receive a 20% discount at checkout with code -unless otherwise listed.
